Garage Doors Eastbourne. A customer in Eastbourne, East Sussex called us out to look at a garage door that was stuck open. On examining the garage door it was discovered that one of the cables had gone slack and this causes the anti-drop mechanism to engage. This mechanism is a spring loaded spike that slots into a hole in the side track to prevent the door falling in the event of a spring or cable failure. We managed to lower the garage door and untangle the twisted cable. Once the garage door cables were under tension again the door could move up and down freely without hindrance.
Automatic Garage Doors. Garage doors can be automated either at the point of the initial installation or retrospectively. Fully retractable up & over garage doors, sectional garage doors and side hinged garage doors can be automated without any major conversion to their lifting mechanism. The majority of double sized garage doors are ready to have an electric garage door opener installed. Insulated roller shutter garage doors are nearly always automated when they are fitted, as they are not normally sprung, so the electric motor is the only means of lifting them. Canopy garage doors present the biggest problems for automation. Whilst many devices, such as bow arms, have been invented to overcome the problems of automating canopy garage doors, as a company we feel that it is better in most circumstances, to remove the existing canopy lifting gear and re-hanging the existing garage door panel with new, fully retractable lifting gear. The main problem with automating canopy garage doors is the conflict in the direction of travel with the electric garage door opener. With canopy garage doors, the main area of movement is vertically up and down the side posts, whereas the electric garage door opener moves horizontally from the front towards the rear of the garage. This conflict often results in the garage door not opening fully.
Garage Door Repair Garage door repairs form a major part of our business. We feel that all too often a garage door is replaced, when it could be saved with a simple repair. The benefits of repairing a garage door, as oppossed to fitting a new garage door, are not just financial. Very often your garage door matches the style of your property and you do not want to change it. Alternatively you may have a simple garage door that is purely functional and see no reason to replace it. The most common of garage door repairs is the replacement of broken lifting cables on canopy garage doors.

Henderson garage door cables are made of steel bowden cable and although they are very durable, they are suseptable to breaking, especially after years of continued use. Some Henderson garage door cables break at the loop where they attach to the side roller spindle. This area can often be exposed to the elements and inevitably they are attacked by rust over the years. These cables are also under extreme tension and any defect or fault in the garage door cables will cause the cable to snap. Henderson garage door lifting cables were used on the Henderson Merlin Mk1 & Mk11 garage doors and the Henderson Doric garage door, the two most popular garage doors in the Henderson range. When the Henderson garage door cables are renewed, they are replaced with the plastic slotted cones as an integral unit. The replacement of Henderson cones and cables is probably the most common garage door repair we undertake. For more details on replacing Henderson cones and cables, please telephone 01892-511161 or 01689 853248.
Autodor Liftmaster Electric Garage Door Opener Repairs. The Chamberlain Liftmaster or Autodor electric garage door opener was once one of the most popular electric garage door openers in Britain. Consequently there are a lot of installed motors that are over 10 years old. In recent months we have carried out a number of repairs to this model, including renewing the main internal drive cog, replacing the circuit board and supplying and fitting new radio controls. Many of the spares for this electric garage door opener are still available, meaning that they can be repaired at a fraction of the cost of renewing the motor.
Sectional garage doors are vertically opening garage doors, but instead of rolling up above the opening they go back into the garage on tracks. The advantages of the sectional garage door are that they are very secure, especially when they are automated and because they do not swing out when opening, they are very good for short drives. When they are fitted with an electric garage door opener, they can be opened to leave a drive-in height equal to the height of the garage door eg. a 7′ high garage door will leave a drive in height of 7′ where on a normal up & over garage door the drive-in height is normally reduced by around 6″. Sectional garage doors can be supplied in either horizontal lined patterns or a Georgian square pattern. They are also available in a number of woodgrain or RAL colour finishes. Hormann sectional garage doors are our doors of choice.

The older type, double Cardale garage doors had a large single spring each side. They are known as a Cardale blue spot spring and are normally black with a blue paint spot on the hook of the spring.
