Timber garage door frames are vulnerable to decay at the point where they are in contact with the ground. Over the years the base of the timber frame absorbs water and begins to rot. Whilst new sections of post can be grafted in to the bottom of the frame this can create another joint for ingress of water. The best solution is to replace the full length of side post or the complete frame. The new frame is treated and lined with joinery felt where it is in contact with the ground and lower section of wall. It is also good practice to leave a 5-10mm gap between the base of the post and the ground.
