Although the look of stained timber suited the client’s property they did not want the inconvenience of regular maintenance and upkeep that timber garage doors require. As an alternative to timber the client opted for a Wessex GRP (fibreglass) garage door finished in a rosewood colour. The effect fitted in well with the appearence of the property and was virtually maintenance free.

This garage door repair in Orpington Kent involved a Garador MK3C garage door. On attempting to open their garage door, our customer found the door to be very heavy and noticed a spring on the floor. When we arrived on site we confirmed that the spring had broken approximately 3″ from the end. The garage door spring then flys out of the metal springbox above the garage door. The options are to either replace just the broken spring or replace both springs. The manufacturer supplies a springbox and cable set and this replaces the majority of working parts on the garage door and extend the life of the garage door by up to ten years.

On arrival on site we found a Pro-Lift electric garage door opener that was making a noise but not lifting the garage door. It was suspected that the main white plastic drive cog had sheared. On removing the case, this was confirmed by the abundance of snow like, white shredded plastic. The unit was cleaned of all the shredded cog and a new drive cog assembly was installed. The casing was replaced and the chain was re-tensioned. The limits of travel for the garage door were also reset.

This garage door installation in Tonbridge Kent shows that you do not have to spend a fortune to gain a clean contempary look. The garage door that was installed was a standard sized Garador Horizon, finished in a steel blue ( RAL 5011). It was installed with an integral steel frame meaning both the door and frame were now maintenance free. To complete the job the customer opted for a chrome effect handle to match the furniture on his existing front door.

We were called to a site in Redhill Surrey to carry out a garage door repair. A customer had accidently backed into their garage door and wedged the garage within the garage door frame. We managed to gain access to the garage and remove the roller spindles. This allowed the garage door to be released and move within the garage door frame. The bent roller spindles were replaced and fitted within the side tracks. Remarkably the garage door panel was not dented. When we left site there was no evidence that the accident had ever happened.

A customer in Tunbridge Wells was concerned by the leaves blowing under her garage door and collecting in her garage. The problem arose because there was a gap of approximately 1″ between the garage door and the floor. To solve the problem ,we rivetted a purpose built brush strip to the bottom of the garage door. This consists of a thick 1″deep brush connected to an aluminium rail. The brush is stiff enough to prevent leaves and debris blowing under the garage door but felexible enough not to impede the movement of the garage door.

A Wessex canopy garage door had broken a steel garage door cable. Wessex canopy garage doors are normally fitted with Cardale CD45 canopy lifting gear. The cable on this garage door had broken because of lack of maintenance and exposure to the elements in a coastal location. When changing garage door cables it is always best to replace both sides to save a further service charge when the sound cable breaks and also to ensure that both cables are of equal length. In coastal locations it is also an extra precaution to replace the cables with stainless steel cables which are more resistant to corrosion.

A customer in Kent was looking for a more traditional look for their property and opted for a pair of timber side hinged garage doors. The doors were constructed of Cedar, which is much more resistant to rot than standard softwood. The garage doors were also factory finished in a light oak stain. This should mean that the garage doors will not need to be re-decorated for around five years. To finish the job off, the doors were fitted to a timber frame we supplied, fitted and stained black.
