The garage door panels that they use are robust, well finished and should last for years. The lifting mechanism used by Hormann is also very well made and when properly maintained should give many years of trouble free service. However, as with all working mechanisms, if they are not regularly maintained they could fail. Normally it takes little more than regular lubrication and the occasional re-tensioning of the spring to keep them in good working order. If the spring is allowed to lose tension, the garage door will not open as easily and the garage door cables can become tangled when the door is lifted quicker than the spring can pick up the cables. This can ofton result in the anti-drop mechanism kicking -in and the garage door becoming stuck in the open position.

This Hormann sectional garage door has Georgian square panels that can complement a variety of houses and buildings. This garage door is made up of 4 panels that are hinged together and sit in a continuous track/runner that runs vertically up the sides of the garage door and then bends to run horizontally back into the garage. The Hormann sectional garage door has 42mm thick insulated panels and forms a good seal with the floor thanks to the thick rubber buffer on the bottom panel. There are also rubber seals around the sides and top of the garage door. Because the garage door is vertically opening and does not swing out, it is possible to park the car tight to the garage door which is a major benefit if your drive is short. The Hormann sectional garage door is very secure and qualifies for as a secure by design product when coupled with a Hormann electric garage door opener.

The main problems that occur with roller shutters can normally be attributed to the control box, the safety system or the built-in electric tubular motor. Generally the components of most roller shutters are made to a standard so many of the parts are inter-changeable with spares from another roller shutter manufacturer or with generic parts specially manufactured for the purpose. SWS securoglide roller shutters are amongst the most popular roller shutters in the country. They are fitted with Somfy motors which are renowned for their reliability, but like all electrical appliances they do not last forever. We were instructed to replace a roller shutter garage door motor in Maidstone, Kent. The existing garage door motor had been in place for around 10 years, but had now began to struggle when lifting the roller shutter. Once on site the door was dismantled and a new electric garage door motor was fitted. The door was re-programmed and left in good working order.

This Hormann garage door was fitted to a property in Heathfield East Sussex. The garage door is constructed of steel but has a Decograin finish that gives a finish similar to that used by double glazing companies. In this particular case, the property had windows in a rosewood/mahogany finish and this garage door was a very good match. The garage door was also supplied with a similar coloured steel frame and a rosewood UPVC trim. This type of garage door can be manually operated or automated. The security on the manual version can be boosted by the addition of 4 point locking.

This is a very old garage door that has a garage door spring that runs within the leg of a metal garage door frame. Unlike the Garador MK4, the spring within the steel frame is connected to a cable that lifts the garage door. Not only is the spring liable to break but more often the problem lies with the garage door cable breaking. It is a very complicated procedure to replace the cable but it is possible and the replacement cables are still available.
