This Cardale garage door would not close as the cables on each side were out of alignment. One cable was coming off the front of the cone and the other off the back of the cone. This meant that as the door closed one cable was tight and the other was slack. The cables were re-aligned, the spring was tensioned and all working parts were lubricated. The door could now be closed to secure the garage and also worked better than it had in a long time.

On arrival on site it was discovered that one of the garage door springs had broken. This resulted in the door being too heavy for the electric motor. All modern electric garage doors must be sensitive to changes in weight, as this is how they detect if there is an obstruction in the way of the door. With a broken spring the motor attempts to lift the garage door but finds it too heavy, so it stops, thinking that it has hit a obstruction. Replacing the broken spring rectifies the problem.

Because the key did not turn in the lock, the complete lock assembly needs to be removed to release the barrel. Once this was done a new lock was fitted and the customer supplied with two new keys.

This garage door repair was in Crowborough East Sussex. The Cardale spring drum is a spring unit that is unique. The spring is of the clock spring type, a long flat, strip of metal coiled round on itself within the metal unit. This causes its own problems because it is very difficult to lubricate and the coils can then stick to themselves causing a juddering motion. If the spring unit breaks there is no Cardale spring units available. A very good solution is to fit the spring unit for a Garador MK3C. The operation is much smoother. If however the cables to the old Cardale spring unit break, these can be easily replaced.
